CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The UNC women’s tennis team (30-1), defeated the Charleston Southern Buccaneers (16-8) 4-0 on Friday evening in the inaugural round of NCAA action at the Chewning Tennis Center.
To begin the day, the doubles duo of Elizabeth Scotty and Carson Tanguilig collected a quick 6-0 win on court three to give the Tar Heels the doubles advantage. A few moments later, Reese Brantmeier and Reilly Tran won 6-2 to clinch the doubles point for North Carolina.
In singles action, Reilly Tran made quick work on court six. Tran won decisively, 6-0, 6-1 to give UNC a 2-0 lead. At No. 2 singles, top-ranked Fiona Crawley extended UNC’s lead to 3-0 after she won 6-1, 6-0. The Tar Heels clinched the match when Abbey Forbes put together an impressive 6-2, 6-0 victory on court four.
Reese Brantmeier, Carson Tanguilig and Elizabeth Scotty’s matches all went unfinished.
North Carolina will face the Old Dominion Monarchs tomorrow afternoon for a spot in next week’s Super Regional round.
