Sun Devils Down the Ducks 4-3 with Second Win of the Weekend

TEMPEUnder the desert sun at Whiteman Tennis Center, Arizona State men’s tennis (13-8, 2-4) finished Easter weekend with a win against the Oregon Ducks (12-9, 1-3) 4-3 where Max McKinnon clinched the match for the second time this weekend. The Sun Devils also saw victories from Spencer Brachman, Murphy Cassone and Max McKennon in the single’s matches to defeat the Ducks for the second time in the last month.

How it Happened: 

  • Doubles play started with a quick victory on court No. 2 for the Sun Devils. Cassone and McKennon won 6-0 without dropping a game. While the Ducks managed to secure a victory on court No. 3 in a 6-4 win. 
  • Jacob Bullard and Constantinos Koshis broke Charlton and Vandecasteele’s serve and defeated the No. 12 ranked duo 7-5 to secure the first point for the Sun Devils.
  • The Sun Devils took the next two points when Murphy Cassone defeated Charlton in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, then quickly followed Brachman cruising through his match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory. His second win of the weekend to secure the Sun Devils third point of the match,
  • Despite the Ducks gaining three points in the singles matches, Max McKinnon emerged victorious in a dramatic 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 win to clinch the match for the Sun Devils, his third straight singles victory at Whiteman.

Up Next:
The Sun Devils are traveling to Salt Lake City to face the No. 25 Utah Utes on Sunday April 16. The match is slated to start at 1 p.m. MST.
