Sun Devils are Crowned 2023 ASU Invitational Champions


TEMPE – Sun Devil men’s tennis (8-2) are the 2023 ASU Invitational Champions after defeating Loyola Marymount 4-0 on Sunday afternoon for their sixth straight win and third on the weekend. 

“They gave a gritty, tough performance today,” head coach Matt Hill said. “You are never going to go through a tournament without dealing with adversity to get to the end and I thought this weekend was no different so it was great to see us press through that as a collective group.”

In doubles, the Sun Devils continued domination as both pairs beat their LMU opponents 6-3. Once again, Murphy Cassone swept in singles, 6-1,6-3 to finish first on the court. Closely behind him were Max McKennon and Nicola Cigna who also conquered the Lions.

Over three duals worth of singles, Max McKennon went 3-0 while Murphy Cassone and Spencer Brachman went 2-0. 

The Sun Devils are on the road this weekend facing Oklahoma on Friday, March 3 at 5 p.m. and Sunday, Baylor on March 5 at noon MST.
