Styler Named Big Ten Athlete of the Year; Four Wolverines on All-B1G Teams

ROSEMONT, Ill. — Senior Ondrej Styler of the University of Michigan men’s tennis team was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Year, while he, fifth-years Andrew Fenty and Patrick Maloney and junior Gavin Young earned All-Big Ten team honors, the conference announced Thursday (April 27).
Styler, Fenty and Maloney earned first team All-Big Ten honors, while Young was named to the second team. Nino Ehrenschneider was Michigan’s Sportsmanship Award honoree.
Styler is the highest-ranked singles player in the conference at No. 11, while reaching a career-best No. 6 earlier this month. He is 17-1 in dual matches this spring with a perfect 6-0 mark in the Big Ten. A native of Prague, Styler went 7-1 against ranked opponents this season and is on an 11-match win streak. In dual doubles play, Styler boasts a 14-5 mark and has won his last four matches with partner Jacob Bickersteth. Including fall play, Styler is 23-4 in singles and 17-8 in doubles. He has now captured first-team all-league honors in every season he has been a Wolverine.
Styler is the ninth Wolverine to be named Athlete of the Year joining Ed Nagel (1987), Dan Goldberg (1988), MaliVai Washington (1989), David Kass (1992), Dan Brakus (1994), Peter Pusztai (1996), Evan King (2012 and 2013) and Fenty (2020).
Fenty captures his fourth first-team honor. This season, he owns a 16-5 dual singles record, including a 6-2 mark in the Big Ten. With a 33-6 overall record, Fenty won 17 straight singles matches from Sept. 23-Feb. 17 and is 8-4 against ranked opponents. In doubles, he and partner Young are ranked No. 7, the highest ranked pair in the league. They are 12-3 in dual matches with a perfect 5-0 mark in the conference. Fenty is 24-7 in doubles for the year winning five of six matches against ranked opponents.
Maloney began his final season as a Wolverine on a 12-match win streak, which dated back to last spring, and is 11-2 with a 3-1 mark in the Big Ten and is 4-2 against ranked opponents. A first-team selection last year and second-team honoree in 2021, Maloney reached a career-best No. 11 in the national single rankings in February. In doubles play, he is 14-5 with a 5-2 mark in…
