Straight-Set Wins For Hernandez, Malesevic On Monday


TALLAHASSEE, Fla., – Following a successful showing at the ITA Southern Regional last week, Mississippi State’s Carles Hernandez and Nemanja Malesevic continued their stellar tennis play at the ITF Tallahassee 15K.

Hernandez and Malesevic each earned a straight-set singles victories in the opening round of qualifying on Monday. Hernandez beat American Niklas von Hellens of Belmont 6-3, 6-0 while Malesevic conquered Santiago Padilla Cote of Mexico 6-3, 6-2.

A spot in the main draw will be on the line when both men take the court on Tuesday. Hernandez is scheduled to face German Jonas Hartenstein at 9 a.m. CT Hartenstein played for the Bulldogs in 2020 and posted a 1-2 singles record before transferring to North Florida.

Malesevic meets Serbian Aleksa Ciric of Georgia Gwinnett College in the second round of qualifying at approximately 12 p.m.
