State Signs One Of The Nation's Top Transfers

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State men’s tennis coach Matt Roberts picked up a pivotal piece to his roster for next season by signing Dusan Milanovic from the transfer portal earlier this week.

Milanovic was the 2022 Big South Conference Freshman of the Year and the 2023 Big South Conference Player of the Year during his first two seasons at Presbyterian. The rising junior participated in the NCAA Championships with the Blue Hose this past spring and also qualified individually in both singles and doubles.

“Dusan is going to be a perfect fit for our team and culture with his leadership qualities, work ethic and character,” Roberts said. “He has a big game and has proven he can compete with the best in the nation. We are ready to start the fall with him and help him develop on and off the court.”

Milanovic finished this past season ranked 69th in singles and 37th in doubles. The Bijeljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina native posted an impressive 19-3 record in singles at the top position and won 12 of his final 13 matches to close out the year. He knocked off No. 9 Andres Martin of Georgia Tech, No. 48 Peter Makk of USC and No. 119 Andrew Zhang of Duke this past season.

Milanovic, who holds a UTR rating of 13.22, also qualified for ITA Fall Nationals in both singles and doubles after reaching the finals of the ITA Carolinas Regional in both singles and doubles.

“Dusan has shown himself to be a force in the Big South and nationally in his two years already in college tennis,” said MSU assistant coach Jake Jacoby. “He has competed with and beaten some of the best players in college tennis. He is also a hungry competitor looking to see how much he can keep challenging himself and improving. We could not be more excited to have Dusan join the team and bring even more leadership and experience to our awesome lineup.”

Milanovic will be one of three players the Bulldogs feature next season that finished 2023 ranked in singles by the ITA along with No. 89 Nemanja Malesevic and No. 113 Carles Hernandez. He joins a star-studded signing class of five-star Roberto Ferrer Guimaraes and four-star Marshall Landry.
