BATON ROUGE, La. – The first day of the ITA Southern Regional has concluded.
Mississippi State freshman Ava Rath competed in Thursday’s qualifying singles draw but came up short.
Rath opened the event against Nicholls State Qianyu Liu. The Tuscaloosa, Alabama native fell 6-4, 6-2 to Liu.
Singles main draw will begin on Friday at 9 a.m. CT with Jayna Clemens, Alexandra Mikhailuk, Dharani Niroshan, Athina Pitta and Maria Rizzolo competing.
The Bulldogs will also take part in doubles during the tournament which is set to begin Sunday at 5 p.m.
