• Photo Roster of 2022 Spring Academic All-Big Ten Honorees
ROSEMONT, Ill. — The Big Ten conference announced its 2022 Spring Academic All-Big Ten teams on Wednesday (June 1), with the University of Michigan putting 220 student-athletes on the list to push its total to 507 honors this academic year, a new department record.
Criteria for making the Academic All-Big Ten team include being in at least their second academic year at their institution and maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
The breakdown of Michigan student-athletes on the list is 17 from baseball, 12 from softball, seven from men’s golf, seven from women’s golf, 22 from women’s lacrosse, 29 from men’s lacrosse, 33 from men’s track and field, 31 from women’s track and field, 15 from water polo, 34 from rowing, seven from women’s tennis and six from men’s tennis.
Michigan had a trio of student-athletes with a perfect 4.0 GPA in men’s track and field’s Ryan McCloskey (biomedical engineering) and Tianhao Wei (mechanical engineering), along with women’s track and field’s Alice Hill (ecology and evolutionary biology).
The conference office also awards Academic All-Big Ten distinction in the winter and spring seasons, and the Distinguished Scholar Award at the end of the academic year. Student-athletes eligible for the Distinguished Scholar Award must be letterwinners in at least their second year in residence at their institution. Qualifying student-athletes must have earned a GPA of 3.7 or higher for the current academic year, excluding summer school.
