EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State women’s tennis team concluded its B1G weekend road slate against No. 58-ranked Maryland on Sunday afternoon, falling, 4-1.
The Spartans (9-9, 0-4 B1G) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after taking the doubles point to open the match. The 37th-ranked duo of Ayshe Can and Nicole Conard was victorious on the No. 1 doubles court defeating Miranda Minorka and Budin Maria, 6-3.
Over on court No. 2, Liisa Vehvilainen and Marley Lambert would hold off a late push from the tandem of Selma Cadar and Kallista Liu and walked away with a hard fought 6-4 victory.
Maryland (11-7, 2-3 B1G) would go on to sweep the singles competition in straight sets on courts five, four, two and six for the come from behind win.
Michigan State will be back home for more Big Ten action next weekend as it hosts Purdue on Saturday, March 30th at 11 a.m. then takes on Indiana on Sunday, March 31st at 11 a.m.
