Smith Named POW For the Second Time


TUCSON, Ariz. – Colton Smith has been named Pac-12 Player of the week for the second  time this season, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
 
Smith’s first Pa-12 Player of the Week honors came on Jan.30. Smith currently represents Arizona in the fourteenth-ranked spot in singles and the twenty-fourth-ranked spot in doubles.  
 
The Wildcats took on No.47 USC and No.24 UCLA this past weekend, sweeping the two LA schools with a 4-0 victory at USC and a 4-2 win over UCLA.
 
Smith went undefeated in Arizona’s matches defeating both doubles opponents by a score of 6-2 alongside partner Jay Friend. The duo clinched the doubles point to secure the lead for Arizona against USC.
 
He additionally won both singles matches and achieved himself two ranked wins in straight-set victories. Smith dominated in court one for both matches taking down No.73 Peter Makk (USC) 6-3, 7-5 and No.28 Govind Nanda 6-3, 6-4 (UCLA).
