Sarr Earns Second SEC Freshman of the Week Honor – University of South Carolina Athletics

Columbia, S.C. – The Southeastern Conference has announce South Carolina’s Jelani Sarr as its men’s tennis Freshman of the Week.

Sarr claimed the 19th singles win of his young career to help the Gamecocks earn a win on the road at Arkansas this week. The Baltimore, Maryland, native came out on the right side of three sets against Arkansas senior Stefanos Savva to claim a much-needed point for his team.

Sarr claimed the first set of the match 7-5 but Savva evened things with a 6-3 second set. In the decisive third set, Sarr rallied for a dominant performance, winning it 6-1 to put a point on the board for the Gamecocks.

The freshman is now 2-1 in SEC singles play from the No. 4 spot in the lineup and 19-13 overall.

The honor marks Sarr’s second SEC Freshman of the Week recognition after having been named Co-Freshman of the Week during the first week of the season. He is the second player this season to have earned the award multiple times.

Sarr and the Gamecocks will continue SEC action on the road this week, making stops in Tuscaloosa and Auburn on Friday and Sunday.
