Routliffe, Guarachi Advance To Quarterfinals in Women’s Doubles Draw at Wimbledon

LONDON –– Former Alabama alumnae Erin Routliffe and Alexa Guarachi concluded their run in the women’s doubles draw at Wimbledon in the quarterfinals Wednesday. 

Erin Routliffe and partner Alicja Rosolska fell in three sets to Desirae Krawczyk and Danielle Collins. Routliffe and Rosolska dropped the opening set 6-1, before battling through a second-set tiebreaker, 7-6 (4), to force a third round. Routliffe and Rosolska dropped 6-3 in the third set to conclude their run at the event. 

Alexa Guarachi and partner Andreja Klepac fell to Zhang Shuai and Elise Merens to finish in the top eight in the women’s doubles draw. Guarachi and Klepac fell 6-3, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. 

Round of 16

LONDON –– Former Crimson Tide athletes Erin Routliffe and Alexa Guarachi advanced to the quarterfinals in the women’s doubles draw at Wimbledon after both athletes won their Round of 16 match Monday. Both Routliffe and Guarachi will compete on Wednesday in the women’s doubles quarterfinals with match times to be announced later.  

Routliffe and partner Alicja Rosolska secured a spot in the top eight after defeating Asia Muhammad and Ena Shibahara in straight sets. Routliffe powered through the first set with a 6-4 score. A back-and-forth second set saw Routliffe and Rosolska emerge from a 6-6 tie to take the win at 7-6 (3). The former Alabama standout will play Desirae Krawczyk and Danielle Collins Wednesday.

Guarachi and Andreja Klepac continued their dominate run in the women’s doubles draw with their third consecutive straight set win in the tournament. The two posted a 6-3 victory in the opening set against Yang Zhaoxuan and Xu Yifan, before rallying at the end of the second set to take the last three games for a 7-5 win. Guarachi and Klepac will play Zhang Shuai and Elise Merens

Routliffe’s Results

  • Routliffe and Rosolska opened the tournament with a straight-set victory of 6-4, 6-4 over Anhelina Kalinina and Irina-Camelia Begu
  • She won her second round of competition in a contested matchup with Catherine Harrison and Sabrina Santamaria, taking the match at 6-7 (3), 7-5, 7-6 (7)
  • Routliffe earned a spot in the top eight after defeating Asia Muhammad and Ena Shibahara 6-4, 7-6 (3)
