Round of 16 On Deck for Dudeney

LUBBOCK, Texas –  Gators sophomore Alicia Dudeney continued her strong play on Wednesday to advance to the round of 16 at the Lubbock 15K after defeating Brandy Walker: 6-2, 6-4.

Dudeney wasted no time opening up a lead on Wednesday afternoon, putting together a strong string of games to open the match with a 3-0 lead in the first set. Walker managed to get on the board and pull back to within 4-2, but Dudeney responded in-kind to claim the first set, 6-2.

The sophomore’s momentum carried into the second set as she took a quick 1-0 lead over her opponent. Walker was able to break Dudeney, however, and take a 2-1 lead minutes later. Dudeney return the favor in the following game, breaking Walker with ease to regain control of the match and eventually earn the victory, 6-4.

Advancing to the round of 16, Dudeney is slated to matchup with top-seeded Martyna Kubka on Thursday for a spot in the quarterfinals.
