COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State men’s tennis had another tremendous season so it’s no surprise that a record-tying four Buckeyes have earned ITA All-America honors. Matej Vocel was both a singles and doubles All-American while Cannon Kingsley and JJ Tracy both earned singles accolades and Robert Cash earned doubles honors.
This is just the second time in program history that four Buckeyes earned All-America honors in the same season as Bryan Koniecko, Steven Moneke, Justin Kronauge and Drew Eberly were all honored in 2008.
Vocel enjoyed the best season of his career. He was 31-8 in singles play and 39-7 in doubles matches for a combined record of 70-15. His dominance throughout the season was rewarded as he earned All-American status via a Top 16 seed in singles and the No. 2 seed in doubles at the NCAA Championship. He and partner Robert Cash were just the fifth team to ever win the ITA All-American Championship and the ITA Fall National Championship in the same fall and nearly became the second team to follow those with an NCAA Doubles title in the spring. He was ranked in the Top 21 all season in singles and finished with 17 wins over ranked opponents. In doubles, he and Cash had 18 wins over ranked foes, and they finished the year ranked as the No. 1 doubles team in the country. Vocel was also a singles and doubles All-American in 2020.
For Cash, this is the second All-America honor of his career as he also claimed the honor in 2020. In addition to he and Vocel’s combined success, Cash finished the year with a 45-7 doubles record. The 45 doubles wins set a single-season school-record, besting both Chase Buchanan (2012) and Peter Kobelt (2014) who both had with 44 wins. Cash was also 13-4 in singles this season and was a first team All-Big Ten selection for the first time in his career.
Kingsley also earned his second All-America accolade as he was a singles honoree in 2020 as well. The Big Ten Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Year had a 22-7 overall singles record, including a 15-4 mark at the No. 1 spot. He was ranked in the Top 20 all season and earned the No. 8 seed in the NCAA Singles Championship. Kingsley was also stellar in doubles with JJ Tracy, as the pair was 21-2 on the year and Kingsley finished with an overall mark of 23-2.
