UCLA

EUGENE, Ore. – Sophie Luescher and Uxia Martinez Moral’s upset of the nation’s No. 4 doubles team highlighted No. 43 Oregon’s 6-1 Pac-12 setback against 37th-ranked California Sunday at the Student Tennis Center.

Oregon (11-7, 4-4) cruised to an early 1-0 lead, which was clinched by Luescher/Martinez Moral’s 6-2 win at the top spot over Cal’s Jessica Alsola and Katja Wiersholm. The win marked the Ducks’ first win over a ranked opponent of the spring season.

At the No. 2 doubles position, Jo-Yee Chan and Ares Teixido Garcia eased to a 6-0 win over Haley Giavara and Valentine Ivanov. Chan and Teixido Garcia won their third straight doubles match and push their dual doubles record to a team-leading 12-1.

“I thought we came out on all three (doubles) courts playing really well,” said head coach Courtney Nagle. “I think it was really helpful having Jo-Yee back in the doubles. Her and Ares have been great all year so for them to roll through their set 6-0 really helped the other two teams to get in strong position. As for Uxia and Sophie, that’s a great team that’s done really well all year and they’ve been right there with a lot of really good teams so it was great to see them get the win.”

The Bears (8-7, 5-2) went on to win all six singles…
