Purdue Undefeated In January – Purdue Boilermakers

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue women’s tennis was undefeated in the month of January after beating Ball State 4-3. The Boilermakers fought through multiple three-set matches and one tiebreak to finish out their successful month. 

Once again the No. 3 doubles team of Kennedy Gibbs and Juana Larranaga were quick to secure their win. The respective freshman and sophomore won 6-1 over Ball State’s Mariya Polishchuk and Emma Peeler. Gibbs and Larranaga are undefeated at doubles so far this season after not having the opportunity to team up

during fall events. 

At No. 1 doubles, redshirt senior Liz Norman and sophomore Tara Katarina Milic fought back to gain the lead over their opponent and get the doubles point for the Boilermakers. The duo defeated Jessica Braun and Emily Desai from Ball State 6-4. 

Carmen Gallardo Guevara and Csilla Fodor were points away from winning at No. 2 when play was halted at 5-3.

Fodor was instrumental in Purdue’s win. After breezing through her first set, Amy Kaplan from Ball State pushed the second set into a tie. The lead went back-and-forth throughout the 7-point tiebreak, but ultimately Fodor fought her way to the top to win her match 6-3, 7-6 (7) at No 3.

Milic also played through a tough second set to get her win. The Slovenian won the first set 6-2 and fought through the second to win 7-5 against Jessica Braun from Ball State. 

At No. 1 singles, Norman proved she was a force to be reckoned with with a win over the Cardinal’s Emma Peeler. The Terre Haute, Ind. native led in scoring and only dropped two sets in the match to win 6-1, 6-1.
