Purdue Edged by Michigan State

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue men’s tennis team was edged out in the penultimate home match of the season against Michigan State on Friday afternoon at Schwartz Tennis Center, falling 5-2.
 
Doubles was a tight affair to start the match with all matches finishing 7-5. After the Spartans took an early advantage at No. 3, Milledge Cossu and Michal Wozniak battled back to even the score in doubles at No. 2 with a win over Reed Crocker and Kazuki Matsuno. Michigan State took a 1-0 lead as Tomasz Dudek and Daniel Labrador were outlasted by Ozan Baris and Anthony Pero at the top of the order.
 
Michigan State built up its lead with straight set wins at No. 5 and 6. Daniel Labrador gave No. 42 Ozan Baris all he could handle, but the Purdue lineup lead fell in two sets 6-3, 7-5, as the Spartans secured the win.  
 
Wozniak gave Purdue a point at No. 2 as he dispatched Max Sheldon 6-4, 6-4 in straight sets. Cossu gave the Boilermakers their second point of the match as he roared back from a set deficit to beat Graydon Lair 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4.
 
Mujtaba Ali-Khan fell to Anthony Pero at No. 3 in a super tiebreak 6-7(3), 6-4, 10-3

The Boilers close  out their home schedule this Sunday when they host the Michigan Wolverines. Purdue will honor seniors Michal Wozniak and Tomasz Dudek in a ceremony between doubles and singles.
