HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – The Penn State women’s tennis team defeated Marshall, 4-3, in their first match of the weekend in West Virginia.
DOUBLES
Marshall recorded wins on courts one and two to take the doubles point.
Alina Lebedeva and Alexandra Nielsen won the Nittany Lions their lone doubles match of the day by defeating Aisling McGrane and Doroteja Joksovic, 6-3.
SINGLES
Penn State clinched wins on courts one, three, four and six to execute the victory over the Thundering Herding.
No. 53 Sofiya Chekhlystova easily grabbed a win over Doroteja Joksovic, 6-1, 6-0.
Carla Girbau won a hard-fought match against Emma Vanderheyden, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Olivia Dorner earned the Blue and White its third singles point to tie the match 3-3. She defeated Sophia Hurrion, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.
Alexandra Nielsen clinched the match for Penn State with her 7-5, 7-5 win over Andjela Lopicic.
