Penn State Collects 4-0 Win Against Xavier On The Road

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Penn State women’s tennis team (4-3) swept in a 4-0 victory over Xavier (4-4) on the road Saturday afternoon. 

“It’s always tough playing on the road but I think we did a good job being consistent and not letting our opponents get any easy points,” said Alina Lebedeva. “Now, it’s time to recover and get ready for our next match against Kentucky!” 

Doubles   

The Nittany Lions scored the doubles point against Xavier to secure an early 1-0 lead. 

On court No. 2, partners Olivia Ryan and Yvonne Zuffova defeated Kat Lyman and Anne-Sophie Courteau, 6-2. Alexandra Nielsen and Karly Friedland secured the doubles point on court No. 3 against Xavier’s Anna Roggenburk and Anna Smith, 6-2. 

On court no.1 Sofiya Chekhlystova and Gabby O’Gorman’s match against Ahmeir Kyle and Imani Grahm was left unfinished at 5-3. 

Singles  

The Nittany Lions continued to dominate in singles play over the Musketeers collecting three wins to clinch the match. Alina Lebedeva earned an impressive victory over Anne-Sophie Courteau on court No.6, 6-0, 6-2. Sofiya Chekhlystova defeated Ahemir Kyle, 6-1, 7-5. Alexandra Nielsen clinched the match for Penn State with a victory over Kat Lyman, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2. 

Zuffova, O’Gorman and Karly Friedland’s matches were left unfinished.

The Nittany Lions continue their weekend on the road against the University of Kentucky tomorrow at 11 a.m.
