CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 25 Fighting Illini men’s tennis sophomore Karlis Ozolins has been named Big Ten Tennis Athlete of the Week following his performances against Wisconsin and Nebraska.
- Went 2-0 on the weekend in the No. 1 singles spot, defeating Wisconsin’s Jared Pratt (6-2, 6-3) and Nebraska’s Roni Hietaranta (6-1, 6-1) – finishing first both times
- Is 3-1 in Big Ten competition and 13-3 overall
- Moved up to No. 48 in the singles rankings
- He and doubles partner, Hunter Heck, are ranked No. 36 in the country
- Ozolins and Heck went 2-0 in the No. 1 doubles spot, making them 7-1 in that position, 4-1 in B1G play and 11-1 overall
It marks the first Illini this season to earn a B1G Athlete of the Week nod.
