Ozan Baris Ranked No. 1 In ITA Preseason Rankings

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Michigan State men’s tennis junior Ozan Baris is ranked No. 1 in the Division I Men’s ITA Collegiate Tennis National Preseason Rankings.

After standout freshman and sophomore seasons, Baris becomes the first player in Michigan State program history to be ranked No. 1 in the ITA Singles Rankings, adding to the history he set last season being part of the first No. 1 ranked doubles team in Michigan State history, teaming with Max Sheldon.

Baris is joined in the rankings by redshirt sophomore Aristotelis Thanos at No. 72 in the singles rankings, while the doubles team of Baris and Thanos is at No. 22 and the senior-freshman doubles team of the senior, Sheldon and freshman Matthew Forbes is No. 54.

The 2023-24 season was a historic one in MSU men’s tennis history, as the Spartans posted a program-record 23 wins including an NCAA Tournament win, their first in program history. Baris qualified for the NCAA Tournament in both single and doubles, teaming up with Sheldon for doubles.

Baris was named the Big Ten Player of the Year, and earned All-Big Ten accolades, along with Thanos and graduated senior Ronald Hohmann III.
