Carl Emil Overbeck would also book a spot at NCAA Doubles with a win Tuesday in the regional doubles final.

SEATTLE – California men’s tennis senior Carl Emil Overbeck won in the singles semifinals Monday at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships to advance to Tuesday’s final and qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship. The Dane also has a chance to qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship on Tuesday when he partners with Theo Dean in the regional doubles final. The doubles champs in Seattle qualify for NCAA doubles, with Baylor hosting both national individual tournaments Nov. 19-24 in Waco, Texas.

In the singles semifinals, third-seeded and 56th-ranked Overbeck defeated teammate Alex Chang – the eighth seed who’s ranked 123rd – 6-3, 6-4. With three Golden Bears in the semifinals, the final could have been an all-Cal affair. But second-seeded and 44th-ranked Dean fell to Washington’s seventh-seeded and 108th-ranked Cesar Bouchelaghem 6-4, 6-4. Overbeck faces Bouchelaghem – who also qualified for NCAA singles as a regional singles finalist – at 10 a.m. PT on Tuesday.

Dean prevailed over Bouchelaghem in doubles, as third-seeded and 25th-ranked Dean and Overbeck bested Washington’s top-seeded and 10th-ranked Bouchelaghem and Dzianis Zharyn 5-7, 6-4, 10-5 to reach Tuesday’s final, which will start after the singles final after suitable rest. The Bears will face Stanford’s fourth-seeded and 32nd-ranked Samir Banerjee and Nico Godsick in the last match of the ITA Northwest Regional Championships.
