EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon men’s tennis got out to an early lead, but fell 4-3 this afternoon at the Student Tennis Center.
The Ducks No. 1 doubles team of Joshua Charlton and Quinn Vandecasteele got back on track with a 6-3 win, quickly followed by the same result on court two from Ivailo Keremedchiev and Ray Lo, giving Oregon the 1-0 lead. Luke Vandecasteele and Avi Shugar were up 5-4 when the point was decided.
Charlton continued his strong play in singles, giving the Ducks a 2-0 lead with a quick 6-3, 6-1 win. The next two points would go to San Diego, setting up for an exciting finish. Keremedchiev and Breazu both dropped straight-set matches, with Quinn, Jesper and Lo going the distance.
Quinn dropped his match on court two and it was win-out or go home for the Ducks. Lo and Klov-Nilsson were both in the third set and each tied at 6-6. Both were in a tiebreak when San Diego clinched the match with a win on court four.
