Novak Djokovic confirmed Thursday that he has undergone surgery on his right knee to repair a torn meniscus.

Djokovic posted on twitter/X:

“In the past day, I had to make some tough decisions after sustaining a meniscus tear during my last match. I’m still processing it all but I am happy to update you that the surgery went well.

“I am so appreciative of the team of doctors who have been by my side…

“… as well as the overwhelming support I have received from my fans.

“I’m going to do my best to be healthy and fit to return to the court as soon as possible.

My love for this sport is strong and the desire to compete at the highest level is what keeps me going. Idemooo 💪💪”

The Serb aggravated his right knee during that incredible 5-set win over Francisco Cerundolo. He had treatment on the knee early in the second set, and still somehow managed to win setting up a Wednesday rematch with Casper Ruud in the quarterfinals.

But Tuesday when he woke up, the knee wasn’t right and withdrew from a Grand Slam mid-tournament for the first time in his career.

With his Wimbledon title defense on July 1, there’s an outside chance he could still play and then there’s the Olympics looming back on the slippery Roland Garros courts in late August.

Djokovic usually doesn’t play any grass warm ups so he’s no missing events, but the summer is packed this year so there was no delay with the surgery decision.
