The No. 7 USC men’s tennis team whipped up another solid win at home, defeating No. 25 UCLA in the championship bout of the ITA Kickoff Weekend today at Marks Stadium. USC will now make its 16th straight trip to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, which will be held next month in Chicago, Ill. The Trojans now hold a 4-0 record in these early goings of 2023 action.
USC’s top guns in doubles – No. 12 Stefan Dostanic and Bradley Frye – lived up to their billing in taking down UCLA’s Giacomo Revelli/Patrick Zahraj 6-0 on center court. Just one court over, Trojans Wojtek Marek and Samuel Rubell would defeat the Bruin duo of Jeffery Fradkin/Aadarsh Tripathi 6-3 to haul in the doubles point for USC. Action on court two was suspended.
Moving into singles play with a one-point advantage, the Trojans pulled ahead as No. 38 ranked Peter Makk would defeat No. 89 Giacomo Revelli (UCLA) 6-2, 6-2 on court two. Trojan Wojtek Marek continued USC’s winning ways, recording a 6-3, 6-4 victory on court four over UCLA’s Aadarsh Tripathi.
The match would be clinched on court six as sophomore Ryan Colby would defeat Bruin Timothy Li 6-4, 7-6(4) to send the Trojans to Chicago. The remaining matches on courts 1, 3 and 5 were abandoned with USC leading on center court.
Next up, the Trojans travel to Florida to take on the Gators on Saturday (Feb. 4) for a 2 p.m. ET match. On Sunday (Feb. 5), USC will face Georgia for a 12 p.m. ET neutral site dual.
