No. 61 Women’s Tennis Drops 4-2 Decision to No. 62 Minnesota

SAINT PAUL, Minn. — The 61st-ranked Penn State women’s tennis team (10-11, 4-5 B1G) fell 4-2 on the road to No. 62 Minnesota (15-9, 3-6 B1G) on Sunday afternoon. 


DOUBLES  

The Golden Gophers earned the doubles point with wins on courts No. 1 and No. 2. 

Minnesota’s duo, Ekin Ercetin and Emilee Doung defeated Karly Friedland and Sofiya Chekhlystova, 6-2, on court No. 1. 

The doubles point was decided by a win from Rachel Hanford and Dailila Said, 6-0, over Penn State’s pairing, Yvonne Zuffova and Olivia Ryan. Court No. 3 was left unfinished between duo Gabby O’Gorman and Alexandra Nielsen and pairing Lucy Lu and Maria Rizzolo. 

SINGLES 

Minnesota continued to build its lead in singles play, earning points on courts No. 4, 5, and 6. 

Zuffova earned the Nittany Lions first point of the match, capturing a three-set victory over Emilee Duong. Zuffova fell 3-6 in the first set, but took victory in the second and third sets, 6-1 and 6-3, to capture the point for PSU. 

On court No. 3, Gabby O’Gorman defeated Ekin Ercetin in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.  

Chekhlystova and Rachel Hanford’s match was left 6-7, 4-7 (unfinished) on court No. 1.
