CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team (10-6, 2-4 ACC) tallied its second ranked victory of the weekend Sunday, defeating No. 29 Louisville, 4-1, at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
Graduate student Dan Martin recorded his fourth win over a ranked opponent this spring, while the duo of fifth-year senior Franco Aubone and Martin took down the No. 68 pair of Etienne Donnet and Sergio Hernandez in doubles.
The Hurricanes were dominant from start to finish, jumping out to an early 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point. Sophomore Martin Katz and freshman Antonio Prat tallied Miami’s first doubles win, defeating Will Mayew and David Mizrahi, 6-0, at third doubles.
Aubone and Martin clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory on court two for their first win over a ranked opponent this season.
Martin doubled Miami’s lead with a 6-1, 6-2 win over No. 60 Natan Rodrigues at first singles. The Laval, Quebec, native is now 7-5 in dual match play this season.
Louisville’s No. 50 Fabien Salle notched the Cardinals’ only point of the day on court three, defeating No. 76 Katz, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3.
Freshman Nacho Serra Sanchez moved to 9-3 in singles action after recording a 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 comeback victory on court six to give Miami a 3-1 advantage.
The match was clinched at fifth singles when Aubone bested Andre Steinbach 7-5, 1-6, 6-2.
At the time of clinching, Prat and graduate student Leo Bierbaum were each in three-set battles at second and fourth singles, respectively.
The Hurricanes remain at home to take on the Drexel Dragons on Wednesday, March 29. First serve at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center is set for 3 p.m.
