CHICAGO – No. 6 USC men’s tennis wound up on the wrong end of a tight match today at, as No. 11 Georgia won 4-2 on the Sunday, Feb. 19 at XS Tennis Village. With the loss, USC returns home with a 1-2 record at the ITA National Indoor Championships this year.
Doubles began and the Trojans jumped out front, with Wojtek Marek and Samuel Rubell picking up a win on court three as they downed Croyder/Johnston 6-4. Next, #24 ranked Quinn/Byrde defeated USC’s No. 12 ranked duo of Stefan Dostanic and Bradley Frye 6-4 at center court. The doubles point was decided on court two as Henning/Giusca beat Trojans Peter Makk and Lodewijk Weststrate 7-6(5).
In singles, senior #118 Bradley Frye fell to Blake Croyder (UGA) 6-1, 6-2 at court four, giving the Bulldogs a two-point advantage. USC struck back as Lodewijk Weststrate (def. Miguel Perez Pena) and Wojtek Marek (def. Trent Bryde) each recorded wins with 6-4, 6-4 score lines. From there the match went in favor of the Bulldogs, with #82 Ryan Colby falling 7-6(2), 6-4 to Teodor Giusca at No. 5 singles. Finally, #5 Ethan Quinn (who fell to Stefan Dostanic a few weeks back), got revenge, this time defeating #35 Dostanic 7-6(3), 7-5 to clinch the match.
USC now returns home for a bit, with a Wednesday (March 1) match at crosstown rival UCLA scheduled for 3 p.m. pacific time.
