No. 44 Sun Devils Host No. 16 Arizona in Territorial Cup Showdown


TEMPE – No. 44 Sun Devil Men’s Tennis (13-9, 2-5)  will look to end the regular season on a high note Saturday night when they’ll welcome in-state rival No. 16 Arizona (19-5, 5-2) on Saturday at 6 p.m. MST to Whiteman Tennis Center. The match can be seen on ASU Live Stream 3 and the winner of the contest will earn their school a critical Territorial Cup point. 

Previewing the Sun Devils:

Coming off a 2-4 defeat against the Utah Utes last Sunday, the Sun Devils will attempt to defend their territory as the team boasts an 11-3 record at home, and will try to upset the Wildcats for the first time since 2019 when the Sun Devils won 4-2 in Tucson, and earn their third conference win of the year.

Sophomore No. 40 Murphy Cassone continues to find success winning four straight matches after defeating Franco Capalbo of Utah last week in a three-set victory. Cassone has an 11-2 record all-time against Pac-12 opponents and has won 12 three-set matches in his career as a Sun Devil. He won last year’s singles match in straight sets to claim ASU’s only point. 

The doubles duo of Constantinos Koshis and Jacob Bullard have won two straight matches, helping the Sun Devils take the doubles point consecutive times. They boast a 4-2 record in conference play when paired together. Max McKennon and Murphy Cassone have also won consecutive matches in conference play.

The Arizona Wildcats:

The No. 16 Arizona Wildcats are coming off a close 4-3 defeat to the then-No. 27 Utah Utes, but have had five conference victories this season with a 19-5 record. Before facing the Utes, they had a seven-match winning streak.

Looking Ahead:

The Sun Devils will travel to Ojai, Calf. to start postseason play at the Pac-12 Championships, starting on Wednesday, April 26-29. where the four-day event hosts some of the best talent in the conference.
