No. 29 Wisconsin falls to No. 58 Maryland

Big Ten Championships

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – No. 29 women’s tennis team faced the No. 58 Maryland Terrapins on April 21 at the Tennis Center at College Park. The Badgers dropped to the Terrapins, 4-3. 

At No. 3 doubles, Taylor Cataldi and Rosie Garcia Gross were the first to complete their set with a strong 6-3 win over their Terrapin opponents. Maria Sholokhova and Alina Mukhortova pulled off a major upset by defeating the No. 61 doubles pairing in a 6-4 victory, which also clinched the doubles point for the Badgers 

Every Badger unleashed their full potential on the singles court, with all six matches extending to third sets. After a difficult 6-0 loss in the first set, Maria Sholokhova rallied to upset No. 70, winning her next two sets, 6-3 and 6-2. Ariel Johnson showed the same resilience in her match, rebounding strongly to dominate the final two sets with two 6-1 victories. Ultimately, the Badgers were not able to follow through and fell in the third set of the rest of the four matches.
