No. 25 Women’s Tennis to Host No. 1 Oklahoma State and Cal Poly


TEMPE, Ariz.- The second of three weekends at home for No. 25 Sun Devil Women’s Tennis will feature a pair of opponents in the No. 1 Oklahoma State Cowgirls (Saturday, February 17 at 12 p.m. AZT)  and the Cal Poly Mustangs.

Sun Devil Notables (5-2)

  • The Sun Devils are ranked No. 25 in this week’s ITA team rankings, their third week in a row in the rankings.
  • Arizona State won its most recent match on Saturday in a 4-0 sweep over Arkansas. Patricija Spaka and Chelsea Fontenel clinched the doubles point on Court 1 for the Sun Devils. ASU went on to pick up three quick singles matches victories from Spaka, Giulia Morlet and Marianna Argyrokastriti to win the match for the Sun Devils.
  • The Sun Devils are 4-0 on the season at Whiteman Tennis Center to begin the season. They had their first undefeated season at home in school history last season and have a 38-3 record at Whiteman since 2021.
  • ASU has two ranked in ITA’s singles rankings with Morlet at No. 77 and freshman Emilija Tverijonaite ranked No. 97.
  • Spaka, Morlet and Argyrokastriti continue to lead the way for ASU in singles wins as each of them have five to begin the season.
  • In doubles, the pairing of Spaka/Fontenel continues to lead doubles wins with five on the season after a 6-4 victory on Saturday in the win against Arkansas.
  • Chasing 600: Head coach Sheila McInerney picked up her 579th career win in her 40th season with the Sun Devils against Arkansas.

Previewing No. 1 Oklahoma State (8-0)

  • The Cowgirls won their first-ever ITA Indoor National Championship over the weekend as they picked up a win over No. 2 Michigan in the championship match. Their No. 1 ranking this week is the first one for them in school history.
  • Oklahoma State has five ranked in ITA singles rankings: Ange Oby Kajuru (No. 5), Anastasiya Komar (No. 17), Ayumi Miyamoto (No. 46), Lucia Peyre (No. 54) and Saifya Carrington (No. 122). They also have two ranked doubles pairs: Oby Kajuru/Komar (No. 13) and Komar/Raquel Gonzalez (No. 14).
