SEATTLE – The Washington women’s tennis team (5-0) took the Baylor Bears down to the wire Sunday afternoon but secured the win thanks to Melissa Sakar’s clinching match on court 4.
No. 1 and No. 2 doubles each snagged 6-3 wins to secure the doubles point.
Astrid Olsen improved to 6-0 in singles this season and was the first to finish her match, defeating Baylor’s Kostenko in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0.
Alexia Jacobs battled on court 2 and finally outlasted Baylor’s Berry, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
Sakar gave the Huskies the final singles point they needed after a long back-and-forth with the Bears’ Kubacha, 6-0, 7-6 (7-4).
The Dawgs will host the ITA National Team Indoor Championships next weekend, Feb. 9-12 at Nordstrom Tennis Center.
