No. 21 Alabama Begins Road Slate Against Northwestern, Wisconsin


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –– The No. 21 Alabama men’s tennis team (5-2) will begin a five-match road stretch this weekend as the Tide heads to Northwestern (3-5) Friday and Wisconsin (0-6) on Sunday.

First serve between the Crimson Tide and the Wildcats is set for 6 p.m. CT on Friday, while the match between UA and the Badgers is scheduled for noon.

Match Notes

  • Alabama retained its national ranking of No. 21 for the second week
  • In the singles rankings, Filip Planinsek continues to pace the squad at No. 53, while Enzo Aguiard ranks No. 74 and Matias Ponce De Leon ranks No. 115
  • Planinsek is also ranked in doubles alongside teammate Andrii Zimnokh as the duo secure the No. 45 spot nationally  
  • The Tide enters the weekend on a five-match winning streak and is coming off a pair of victories against Kennesaw State and Tennessee Tech last Saturday (2/3)
  • Roan Jones leads the team in doubles action, with a 15-3 overall record and a 6-1 record in dual matches
  • Jones’ paired performance is highlighted by doubles victories against then-No. 20 Florida State and then-No. 10 Kentucky with partner Matic Dimic
  • In singles, Matias Ponce De Leon and Jones both hold a team-leading 14 wins, while Zimnokh paces UA in dual match wins with success in six of the Tide’s seven matches
  • Alabama and Northwestern will go head-to-head for the 11th time while UA and Wisconsin will compete for the seventh
