No. 20 Men’s Tennis Sweeps Utah on Senior Day

TEMPE– In Friday’s final home match of the regular season, No. 20 Arizona State men’s tennis (14-8, 2-2) sent their seniors off on a winning note. The Sun Devils led Pac-12 opponent Utah (3-16, 0-5) from start to finish and never conceded a set in their 4-0 victory.

Head Coach Matt Hill praised his senior Jacob Bullard who clinched the match for the Sun Devils, “What an incredible night for Jacob, Max, and even Spencer who is coaching… he’s in on JB’s singles match. These guys that are graduating really stabilized the culture in the locker room for this program.” 

The win had extra meaning for seniors Max McKennon, Jacob Bullard, and Spencer Brachman, who competed at Whiteman Tennis Center for the last time. They were honored by coach Matt Hill and their parents prior to singles play. 


Alongside their families, former players were also in attendance for Alumni Weekend.  The current squad put on a show for their predecessors. 


The Sun Devils seized the opening doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead. Partners Vergara Del Puerto and Constantinos Koshis pulled away in their court three match, winning 6-2. Needing one more victory to clinch doubles, Jacob Bullard and Murphy Cassone won, 6-2, on court one.


ASU carried their dominance into singles play. Roi Ginat earned his 10th singles win of the season, 6-1, 6-2, on court three. Nicola Cigna’s 6-1, 6-1 victory on court six put the Sun Devils ahead 3-0. With the opportunity to seal the match, Bullard won on court four, 6-2, 6-4, to clinch ASU’s victory in a fitting end to Senior Day.
