No. 19 Sun Devils Depart ITA Kickoff Weekend with 5-0 Win Over UCSB

AUBURN, Ala. – The No. 19 Sun Devil Women’s Tennis team (6-1) is back in the win column after rebounding nicely at the ITA Kickoff Weekend with a 5-0 win over UCSB (1-3) on Sunday morning at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.

Facing a Gauchos squad that was able to field just five healthy players, the Sun Devils afternoon were given a 1-0 advantage before play even began, since UCSB had to forfeit both a doubles match and a singles match.

The Sun Devils opened the contest by handily winning the doubles point, the seventh consecutive match they’ve done so to begin the season. With the Gauchos down a doubles pair, all the Sun Devils needed was a Court 2 win by Giulia Morlet/Sedona Gallagher (6-1) to clinch the lone point.

Now up 2-0 and needing to win just two of the remaining five singles matches, four Sun Devils emerged victorious in their respective first sets. Sedona Gallagher was the first Sun Devil off, after breezing by UCSB’s Gonzalez-Ballbe in straight sets (6-1, 6-2), which paved the way for Marianna Argyrokastriti to clinch soon after against Khrebtova (6-2, 6-0).
