No. 19 Florida State Drops Battle at No. 13 Duke

Durham, N.C. – The No. 19 Florida State men’s tennis team (17-7, 8-4 ACC) fell to No. 13 Duke (18-5, 11-1) 4-3 on Sunday afternoon at Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.

Duke secured the 1-0 lead after winning doubles matches on court No. 1 and court No. 3. 

Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc and Joshua Dous-Karpenschif defeated the No. 44-ranked doubles pair of Andrew Zhang and Michael Heller 6-4 on court No. 2. This was the pair’s second ranked doubles win of the season, and their eighth win in their last nine matches.

The Blue Devils opened singles scoring with a 6-2, 6-3 win on court No. 2. 

Dous-Karpenschif earned Florida State its’ (no apostrophe) first point with a 6-2, 6-4 straight-set victory on court No. 4. Sunday’s victory marks the sixth victory in the last seven ACC matches for Dous-Karpenschif.

Andreja Petrovic tied the match after a 6-4, 6-2 win on court No. 5. Petrovic’s win pushes his dual wins total to 12 this spring.

A Duke victory on court No. 1 gave the Blue Devils a 3-2 lead, and then the match was clinched by the Blue Devils on court No. 6 after Faris Khan’s 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory. 

Youcef Rihane earned the last point of the afternoon after a 6-7 (11), 6-2, 6-3 come-from-behind win on court No. 3.  

The Seminoles resume play when they travel to Cary, North Carolina for the ACC Championships next week. Florida State is the No. 5 seed in the ACC tournament, and will play the winner of Clemson and Boston College on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. Live stats and live video will be available on Seminoles.com.
