LOS ANGELES – The No. 18 ranked USC women’s tennis team battled back from an early deficit to defeat No. 17 ranked Tennessee 4-2 at the Goodfriend Tennis Center in Knoxville, Tenn. With the win, USC improves to 4-0 and advance to next month’s ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Seattle, Wash.
The Trojans fell behind early after dropping doubles matches on courts three and two.
Moving into singles play with a one-point deficit, USC fifth-year No. 83 Eryn Cayetano would battle to beat her Vol opponent No. 115 Elza Tomase 6-2, 6-3.
With the match tied up, freshman Immi Haddad would follow it up with a victory on court six, downing Tennessee’s Leyla Britez Risso 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.
Tennesse’s No. 91 ranked Alana Wolfberg closed the gap as she defeated No. 42 ranked Naomi Cheong 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 on court three.
No. 66 ranked Grace Piper put the Trojans one point away from a win, defeated Tennessee’s Lauren Anzalotta 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 on court five.
The match was won on court two as sophomore No. 22 ranked Emma Charney beat Catherine Aulia 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 to clinch the victory for the Trojans.
Next up, USC heads to San Diego for a Saturday, Feb. 3 dual match at 11 a.m.
