No. 17 USC Women’s Tennis Stalls Out During 4-3 Loss to No. 20 ASU

The No. 4/17 ranked Women of Troy dropped four straight matches following an early 3-0 lead to suffer a 4-3 loss to the No. 5/20 ranked Sun Devils during the quarterfinals of the Pac-12 Championships on Thursday (Apr. 21). 
 
As a result of the win, ASU will now meet No. 1 Cal on Friday afternoon with a championship berth on the line.
 
The Trojan pairings of Piper/Cheong and Han/Willson kicked off the morning with a pair of victories in doubles play to haul in the early point for USC. Grace Piper and Naomi Cheong defeated ASU’s Morlet/Gallagher 6-2 on court two, moments before USC’s Snow Han and Danielle Willson would beat Sun Devils Argyrokastiti/Jankowski 6-2 on court three. USC would carry a one point advantage moving into singles play.
 
Singles play commenced a short while later and the Women of Troy swiftly picked up an additional two points, courtesy of No. 97 Snow Han and No. 96 Naomi Cheong. With a 3-0 lead and a victory in sight, USC then dropped four consecutive matches to ultimately fall 4-3 to ASU.
