CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 11 Fighting Illini men’s tennis is set to close out its non-conference schedule with three matches in two days at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Okla. On Thursday, Illinois will take on Oral Roberts (10 a.m. CT) and Tulsa (3 p.m. CT) before squaring off with Oklahoma State on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. CT.
History
While Illinois has yet to ever play Oral Roberts, the Illini have a 5-1 record over Tulsa and a split 2-2 record against Oklahoma State.
Scouting Report
Oral Roberts is coming off a 6-1 loss to North Dakota. Before the loss, the Golden Eagles were on a three-match winning streak: 4-3 at Lindenwood, 4-1 versus Pratt and 7-0 versus Arkansas Fort Smith.
Tulsa and Oklahoma State just finished a dual on Tuesday, with the Cowboys coming out on top, 4-1. While Tulsa won the doubles point, Oklahoma State quickly recovered with four straight singles wins.
Okonkwo Bros
For the first time in his career, graduate student Oliver Okonkwo has a chance to play against his younger brother, Alex, when the Illini face Tulsa.
Alex and his doubles partner, Victor Tosetto, mostly play in the No. 3 doubles spot, while Oliver Okonkwo and Lucas Horve play in the No. 1 or No. 2 holes. However, both Okonkwos have played singles at the No. 5 spot, which makes the chances likely of them playing singles against each other.
