No. 11 Men’s Tennis Take on No. 1 Ohio State for Midweek Tilt


CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 11 Fighting Illini men’s tennis is set to host No. 1 Ohio State on Wednesday, at 6 p.m. CT at Atkins Tennis Center for the two teams traditional non conference matchup. 

History 

Illinois holds a 61-56-1 record over Ohio State with the first match recorded over 100 years ago on May 17, 1920 where the two teams tied, 3-3.

The Illini have faced the Buckeyes 11 times in the past five seasons with a record of 1-10, with the win coming from the 4-3 clinch of the 2021 Big Ten Championship Tournament. 

Scouting Report

Ohio State has yet to lose a match this season, tallying nine shutout matches, including a 7-0 win over the reigning national champions, the Virginia Cavaliers. 

The Buckeyes currently have three athletes in the top 25 singles rankings (JJ Tracy, No. 7, Jack Anthrop, No. 16, Cannon Kingsley, No. 17) with two more players in the top 90 singles rankings (Justin Boulais, No. 32, Alexander Bernard, No. 91).

Two Ohio State doubles pairings have landed themselves in the top 30 in the doubles rankings (Robert Cash and JJ Tracy, No. 5, Alexander Bernard and JJ Tracy, No. 30). 

Ohio State director of tennis Ty Tucker just earned his 700th win of his career after the Buckeyes defeated No. 14 Baylor, 4-1 in Columbus, Ohio.
