No. 11 Cal Falls To USC In First Pac-12, Home Loss

Cal senior Valentina Ivanov – last week’s Pac-12 Player of the Week – won in straight sets against USC to forge a 1-1 tie early in the match.


BERKELEY – Despite singles wins from Valentina Ivanov, Mao Mushika and Lan Mi, 11th-ranked California women’s tennis lost to ninth-ranked USC, 4-3, on Sunday at the Hellman Tennis Complex.
 
The Trojans clinched their victory when Emma Charney defeated Cal senior Hannah Viller Moeller, 6-2, 7-6(5), at court-two singles.
 
The setback was the first home loss and first Pac-12 loss of the season for the Golden Bears, who are now 5-1 in the conference and 12-4 overall. USC improved to 14-6 (5-1).
