LOS ANGELES, Calif. – No. 10 men’s tennis cruised to victory Friday afternoon, sweeping the Oregon Ducks 4-0.
USC jumped out to an early lead after winning the doubles point. In his collegiate debut, freshman Learner Tien secured his first victory with a win on center court with partner Bradley Frye, defeating No. 30 Joshua Charlton and Quinn Vandecasteele 6-2. Lodewijk Weststrate and Samuel Rubell followed quickly with a 7-5 victory on court three over Luke Vandecasteele and Vlad Breazu to secure the point. Stefan Dostanic and Ryan Colby were up 6-6 (3-1) when play paused.
The Trojans carried their momentum through singles play. No. 36 Dostanic secured the Trojans second point, defeating Charlton 6-3, 6-2 on court one. No. 39 Peter Makk brought the Trojans within one point with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Klov-Nilsson on court three, before Weststrate clinched the match with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Breazu on court five. The Trojans lead on courts two and four when play paused.
With their victory over the Ducks, the Trojans improve to 13-7 on the season and 3-2 in Pac-12 play. USC will return to action Saturday afternoon when they host No. 54 Washington. The match will start at 1:30 p.m.
