CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The North Carolina women’s tennis team (23-0, 9-0 ACC), picked up its first victory at its newly constructed outdoor facility on Friday afternoon after it defeated the No. 38 Florida State Seminoles 6-1.
To begin the day, the No. 4 ranked doubles team of Fiona Crawley and Carson Tanguilig picked up the first point for the Tar Heels after they won 6-3. A few moments later, the 13th ranked duo of Reese Brantmeier and Elizabeth Scotty clinched the doubles point after they picked up a 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles. Despite already clinching the doubles point, Abbey Forbes and Reilly Tran won 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, No. 80 Elizabeth Scotty gave North Carolina its second point after she won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. No. 15 Reese Brantmeier notched UNC’s third match point after a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles. No. 68 Reilly Tran clinched the victory for the Tar Heels after she secured the fourth point for North Carolina with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.
After dropping her first set, No. 1 Fiona Crawley fought back to win 1-6, 6-3 (10-6) at No. 2 singles to give Carolina its fifth point.
Abbey Forbes, the 18th ranked singles player in the country, collected UNC’s sixth point after she won 6-4, 0-6 (10-7) at No. 4 singles.
