Nittany Lions Continues Action at Day 2 of ITA Atlantic Regionals


BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Penn State women’s tennis team competed in the second day of the ITA Atlantic Regionals. Round of 64 of main draw doubles and rounds of 64 and 32 main draw singles were played. 
 
ROUND OF 64 MAIN DRAW DOUBLES
 
Yvonne Zuffova and Carla Girbau defeated Andrea Campodonico and Marta Buendia of Richmond 8, 2.
 
Sofiya Chekhlystova and Oliva Dorner won their match against Maitree Rout and Ashley Fitz-Patrick of George Mason 8-0.
 
Karly Friedland and Ioana Gheorghita were successful against Karina Rizvanova and Emma Nurgazieva of Longwood. 
 
All pairs will advance on to the round of 32 main draw doubles.
 
ROUND OF 64 MAIN DRAW SINGLES
 
Carla Girbau declared victory against Mary Brumfield of Maryland 6-4, 6-3.
 
Sofiya Chekhlystova prevailed over Charlotte Kordonowy of Saint Jospeh’s 6-0, 6-0.
 
Karly Friedland bested Alexandra Viktorovich of Old Dominion 7-5, 6-4. 
 
Olivia Dorner fell to Elaine Chervinsky of Virginia, 6-3, 7-5.
 
Alina Lebedeva lost her match against Selma Cadar of Maryland 6-2, 6-2. She will continue on in the singles consolation draw. 
 
Ioana Gheorghita was unsuccessful against Emma Valletta of Virginia 6-1, 6-4.
 
Yvonne Zuffova defeated Camilla Bossi of West Virginia 6-0, 7-5. 
 
ROUND OF 32 MAIN DRAW SINGLES
 
Zuffova won her match against Johanna Strom of Marshall 6-3, 6-0. She will continue on to the round of 16 main draw singles. 
 
Girbau fell to Natasha Subhash of Virginia 7-5, 6-0.
 
Chekhlystova lost her match to Alesya Yakubovich of Old Dominion 6-4, 1-6, 6-4. 
 
Friedland retired her match against Minorka Miranda of Maryland. 
NEXT UP 
 
Rounds of 32 and 16 of main draw doubles and a round of 16 of main draw singles will be played on Saturday, Oct. 22. Consolation rounds for both singles and doubles will also take place. 
 
In doubles, Zuffova and Girbau will face Emma Vanderheyden and Johanna Strom from Marshall. Chekhlystova and Dorner will compete against Shahar Biran and Alesya Yakubovich of Old Dominion. Friedland and Gheorghita are set to play Camilla Bossi and Ting-Pei Chang of West Virginia. 
 
In singles, Zuffova will play Tatsiana Sasnouskaya of Old Dominion. 
 
Lebedeva will take on Momoko Nagato in the singles consolation draw.
