CLEMSON, SC The NC State men’s tennis team got off to a hot start, winning its ACC opener for the fifth consecutive season.
The Pack (7-4) defeated Clemson, 4-0, for a ninth consecutive win over the Tigers.
“Good win for the guys today against a gritty Clemson team,” NC State head coach Kyle Spencer said. “Always great to start off ACC play 1-0, especially on the road.”

Doubles (NC State 1, Clemson 0)
The Wolfpack got the upper hand early, earning the doubles’ point against the Tigers. The duo of Fons Van Sambeek and Braden Shick continued their impressive run, defeating Trey Stinchcomb and Matt Pitts, 6-2.
Van Sambeek and Shick were tied at one early on, before pulling away.
Robin Catry and Luca Staeheli, ranked No. 50 in the ITA, secured the point with a 7-5 win over Nini Dici and Jorge Plans Gonzalez.
Singles (NC State 3, Clemson 0)
Luca Staeheli bounced back from Sunday’s loss versus Elon, quickly getting a win over Nini Dici in two sets, 6-0, 6-0.
That win gave the Pack a 2-0 advantage and Staeheli’s teammates weren’t done.
Van Sambeek won his third straight match of the season, defeating Max Smith, 6-3, 6-3. Van Sambeek remains perfect (6-0) in completed matches this season.
Van Sambeek’s doubles partner, Shick, finished the day with a win over Matt Pitts in two sets. It was also the third straight win for Shick.
