MSU Women’s Tennis Opens Fall Action This Weekend


EAST LANSING, Mich. — Michigan State women’s tennis team is set to open their fall tournament schedule this weekend at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships in Cary, North Carolina from September 21-27. 

Senior Spartan Liisa Vehviläinen and junior Matilde Morais will be competing for the Spartans in the pre-qualifying rounds on Saturday and Sunday. 

Vehvilainen finished her third season of collegiate tennis and second with Michigan State, with an even record of 11-11 in single matches. 

Morais tied with the most singles victories on the team with 12, and was on the Spartans’ top court for majority of the season with 16 matches on the No. 1 court with a 7-9 record and four on the No. 2 court with a 2-2 record.

As a team, the Spartans will travel to Toledo, Ohio next week to compete in the Toledo Rocket Invitational. This marks the team’s first full-team tournament of the Fall 2024 season. 

The Fall schedule continues with the ITA Midwest Regional Championship, Michigan State Classic Presented by Auto Owners Insurance, Spartan Invite and NCAA Sectional Championship. 

The NCAA Individual Championships round out the 2024 Fall season on November 24, and gives the Spartans time to prepare for their jam-packed Spring schedule.
