Mitsui Earns Two Ranked Victories on Day Three of ITA All-American Championships


TULSA, Okla. – Tennessee men’s tennis veteran Shunsuke Mitsui captured a pair of ranked singles wins on Friday at the 2024 ITA All-American Championships, hosted at Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
 
Mitsui opened the day with a triumph over No. 13 Sebastian Dominko of Notre Dame 6-4, 6-2. A few hours later, the senior tallied another ranked victory against No. 4 Cooper Williams from Duke 6-3, 6-2.
 
The Shizuoka, Japan, native’s two wins today bring his career total to 98, leaving him two away from reaching the 100-win mark for his outstanding Tennessee career. Mitsui will face No. 15 Jay Friend of Arizona on Saturday in the singles consolation round of 16.
 
No. 34 Alex Kotzen went up against No. 26 Dhakshineswar Suresh in the singles consolation round of 32 qualifiers. The New York native fell in a three-set thriller by a score of 6-3, 5-7, 6-7 (5).
