Mitsui Advances to NCAA Singles Round of 32, Doubles Play Begins Tuesday


STILLWATER, Okla. – Shunsuke Mitsui advanced to the Round of 32 in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships Monday afternoon at Greenwood Tennis Center.
 
The junior, ranked 37th in singles, battled Pepperdine’s No. 51 Edward Winter in the first set, notching a 9-7 tiebreaker at 6-all before cruising to a 6-3 second-set victory. He now holds a 29-6 record and is 10-3 against ranked opponents in 2023-24.
 
Mitsui will take on Wake Forest’s No. 25 Filippo Moroni in the second round on Tuesday. Start time is to be determined. 
 
The sixth-ranked duo of Johannus Monday and Angel Diaz starts doubles play Tuesday, facing Florida State’s No. 13 pair of Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc and Joshua Dous Karpenschif in the Round of 32. Start time has not been announced.
