LINCOLN, Neb. — The No. 5-ranked University of Michigan men’s tennis team claimed a 4-0 win over Nebraska on Sunday (March 26) at Dillon Tennis Stadium. Coupled with Friday’s win at Wisconsin on Friday (March 24), the Wolverines opened Big Ten play undefeated.

U-M took the doubles point for the 12th time this season. The No. 8-ranked duo of Andrew Fenty and Gavin Young secured a 6-2 victory at No. 1 to improve to 2-0 in Big Ten play and 16-6 on the season. At No. 2, Patrick Maloney and Nino Ehrenschneider played together for the first time this season and secured the doubles point for the Maize and Blue with a 6-3 win.

Michigan took control in singles play, winning first sets at Nos. 1-3 in addition to a win at No. 6. At No. 1, 14th-ranked Ondrej Styler defeated Roni Hietaranta in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 for Michigan’s first singles win of the afternoon. No. 10-ranked Fenty added to Michigan’s lead with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Leo Linquet at No. 2 to improve to 28-4 on the season. No. 117-ranked Will Cooksey claimed his first career victory in Big Ten singles play at No. 6, defeating Nic Wiedenhorn 6-3, 7-5.

Jacob Bickersteth was down a set and tied 6-6 in the second, Ehrenschneider was down 5-6 after falling on a 1-0 hole and Young was up 1-0 and ahead 6-5 in the second set when all three matches were abandoned following Cooksey’s match-clinching win.

The Wolverines are back in action on Thursday (March 30) when they travel to East Lansing to take on Michigan State in a 4 p.m. matchup at the MSU Outdoor Tennis Center.
