EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State men’s tennis wrapped up the first day of play at the Spartan Invitational Friday afternoon, collecting a trio of singles wins and a doubles win at the MSU Outdoor Tennis Center.
Senior Kazuki Matsuno won his morning singles match against Western Michigan’s Brogan Pierece in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Freshman David Saye topped Western Michigan’s Benjamin George, 6-4, 6-4. Graduate student Anthony Pero rounded out the singles wins for the Spartans, defeating Illinois’ Lucas Horve, 6-4, 5-7, 11-9.
In doubles play, Luke Baylis and Josh Portnoy defeated Western Michigan’s Anton Arzhankin and Peter Kuszynski, 6-3.
The Spartans are back in action tomorrow beginning at 9 a.m. at the MSU Outdoor Tennis Center. Saturday begins with singles play, followed by doubles and another round of singles. Fans interested in attending are encouraged to park in Lot 79 on the south end of Spartan Stadium and cross Shaw Lane to head to the courts. Admission is free.
